Van Gaal replaces David Moyes at Old Trafford
Now that the dust has settled on the introduction of Louis Van Gaal as the successor to David Moyes, I feel a familiar dread overcoming me once again. I am definitely more confident in Van Gaal than I was in Moyes. I liked Moyes at Everton but his dealings in the media during the preseason, his axing of Sir Alec Ferguson backroom staff immediately, and his lack of activity of the transfer front were a few signs of what to expect from him (and he did not disappoint). Managing a club like Manchester United was too much of an ask for him. I am hoping Van Gaal will be more active in the market. The fact that he has yet to fulfill his commitment with the Netherlands is a bit worrying for me. Van Gaal needs as much time with the squad as possible. That way he can best evaluate which players to target in the transfer market.
I am fixated on the transfer market rumblings. I have been scouring the internet hoping to hear of any major signing by Manchester United (any signing for that matter) but it remains more of the same. Personally, I am tired of all the rumors of players we are pursuing only to hear of the player’s lack of interest or the player signing elsewhere.
The consensus is that most of the movement in the market will happen after the World Cup. Recent dealings by Chelsea have proven otherwise. The addition of Cesc Fàbregas and Diego Costa strengthen Chelsea’s title bid (it’s only June for crying out loud, I’m sure Mourinho is not done yet). At the moment they are looking like a team that will challenge for years to come. Chelsea has an abundance of young talented players, something Man United is in desperate need of.
